ecoDraining® is a modular concrete pavement with high draining capacity that incorporates ecoGranic® decontamination technology, which makes it actively contribute to the removal of pollutants from the atmosphere .

Permeable pavements for their ability to laminate and purify urban runoff is one of the most comprehensive techniques of the SUDS (Urban Systems of Sustainable Drainage), which pursues in its most important purposes the closure of the natural water cycle: infiltration to underground aquifers, recovery of water for non-potable uses, or before its impossibility, the purification of these pluvial waters before their overturning in the sanitation network.

The use of ecoDraining in different colors and formats on the surface (pedestrian or different vehicle transits) avoiding accumulations of water, puddles, etc., are considered urban green infrastructures with a multifunctional character : mitigators of the urban heat island effect that causes the waterproofing of the cities, sonorreductive, anti-slip and decontaminating pavements (NOx degradation, class 3 norm UNE127197/1) as well as being made with recycled material.

EcoDraining is available in 4 slab models, and always with sharp-edge. We also have the capacity to manufacture customized slabs and curbs.

Uses and placement

Given the different characteristics of the land, PVT offers you support and technical advice to solve any doubts that may arise in the permeable firm project described with ecoDraining. This is carried out with the collaboration of the Urban Systems Sustainable Drainage Laboratory (SUDSlab) belonging to the Construction Technology Research Group of the University of Cantabria (GITECO-UC).

Draining ecoDraining can be used as road solution or in alcorques.

1. Road solutions

For the use of ecoDraining in pedestrian path, cycle path, sustainable urban itineraries , etc. we offer four possibilities of placement (see sections) that vary according to the IMD index that refers to the weight of the traffic that the pavement must support.

Section 1

Pedestrian traffic (heavy IMD of 0): exclusively pedestrian streets or spaces with access to disabled vehicles.

1. Porous slab in cm (20x20x6,5, 20x10x6,5, 20x30x6,5)
2. Gravel washed 2-6 mm (5 cm thick)
3. Geocomposite (variable thickness)

Within the criteria for the choice of an optimal pavement for a bike lane should be considered the balance between the adherence (safety) and the regularity of the surface (comfort).

Also the rapid evacuation of water is considered essential, both for safety, due to the loss of grip between pavement and tire, and for comfort, due to splashes.

Section 2

Very light traffic (heavy IMD from 0 to 5): pedestrian areas with access to emergency vehicles, cycle tracks, light car parks and residential streets.

  1. Perforated slab * (50cm x 33.33cm x 10cm thick)
  2. Gravel washed 2-6 mm (5 cm thick)
  3. Geotextile (variable thickness)
  4. Draining ditch (thickness 35 cm)
  5. Geocomposite (variable thickness)

* The filling will be made with draining material (a good option is to mix the grass substrate with washed sand)

Section 3

Light traffic (heavy IMD from 5 to 15): Two lane streets without bus service, light parking with access to vans.

    1. Locked tile * (30 cm x 20 cm x 10.8 cm thick)
    2. Gravel washed 2-6 mm (5 cm thick)
    3. Geotextile (variable thickness)
    4. Gravel Cement (thickness 25 cm)
    5. Geocomposite (variable thickness)

* Made of porous concrete or placed in a permeable arrangement (with an open joint).

Section 4

Medium light traffic (heavy IMD from 15 to 50): Streets with low intensity bus service and commercial streets.

  1. Locked tile * (30 cm x 20 cm x 10.8 cm thick)
  2. Gravel washed 2-6 mm (5 cm thick)
  3. Perforated waterproof concrete / asphalt layer (minimum thickness 5 cm and recommended 20 cm) </ li>
  4. Draining ditch (thickness 35 cm)
  5. Geocomposite (variable thickness)

* Made of porous concrete or placed in a permeable arrangement (with an open joint).

Adaptation as CAZ

It can also be used in avenues medians.

Adaptation as bike lane

It can also be used as a corbelled tree.

The geocomposite of variable thickness can be a filter and separation geotextile (if it can infiltrate the
ground) or a combination of geotextile and impermeable geomembrane, with or without geogrid / drainage geocell
intermediate (in case of not being able to infiltrate the land).

The indicated thicknesses may vary depending on the quality of the esplanade and the materials used.

2. Alcorques

El pavimento ecoDraining es ideal para uso en alcorques, por características como su capacidad drenante, durabilidad, accesibilidad, sostenibilidad y ventajas en el aspecto económico.

The ecoDraining pavement is ideal for use in treeholes, due to its draining capacity, durability, accessibility, sustainability and economic advantages.

The advantages that ecoDraining provides for flushing tree stands are numerous, among others:

  • High draining capacity: 800-900 L / hour (NTL-327/00)
  • High breaking load (T7) that allows the occasional passage of cleaning machines or pruning trucks.
  • Economically advantageous with respect to other solutions (compacted rubber, cast iron, prefabricated, aggregates, etc.), at the time of its acquisition repair and placement. Also for durability and quick and easy replacement.
  • Solution regarding accessibility (change of texture and color) elimination of architectural barriers (RD505 / 2007) Environmental and sustainable solution (UNE 127197/1 class 3, the highest in NOx degradation) and (made with recycled material: 20- 30%)
